Q & A 經騐
Q: Anything to share about helping young child?
A: Better practice is for parents to proactively prevent problems to happen. Communication with or seeking feedback from or asking for comments from young child could help to find clues of concerns, if any. Careful observation could help to reveal signs of possible problem. Touch and feel the child’s muscle and body could help to identify potential issues of concerns.
A student’s example: the student feels OK but he also admits not feeling as good as expected as he wants to be. After checking, the tongue looks pale blank pink and the tongue body a bit thin. Signs indicate internal cold, and Xue (Blood) is not supple enough. After several packs of herbs to warm the interior and enrich the Xue (Blood), improvement seemed to be satisfactory. Throughout the most demanding several weeks’ HSC exam period, regular checking to keep things on the right track and occasional topping up when necessary. Practitioner’s observations and student’s feedback both confirm such help is timely and valuable.
Q: I am in high twenties, physically fit with well-built body. Feel lack of energy, low libido, poor appetite. Will acupuncture and herbal medicine help?
A: Yes! Acupuncture once a week, Chinese herbal medicine one pack a day until back to normal.
For young and otherwise healthy people, it usually takes one to two weeks to get back to normal.
In case need to manage a budget and want to choose between acupuncture and Chinese medicine, better do the herbal medicine.
Q: I look after my family with children and have a job busy working. For some time now, I feel anxious and low energy and bloating and constipation / irregular bowel motion. Recently start affecting normal day to day life functioning and performance at work. I want to try TCM, can you help?
A: Yes! Acupuncture once a week, Chinese herbal medicine one pack a day until back to normal.
Relief of symptoms may take 3 to 10 days. In some cases, treat the cause of the problem is necessary.
Q: I feel can’t stand straight and my back hunched forward, I also feel from the waist down there are heavy weights dragging the body down more so when walking. Is there anything I can do to help?
A: Information indicates there are possibly two issues: one is issue with the back and other one is heaviness from waist down.
Priority is to sort out the heaviness issues first. Either acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine would be helpful, in some circumstances better have both.
For occasionally happen episodes of such problem, 3 to 5 packs of herbal medicine one pack a day would most likely resolve the issue.
The back hunched forward issue may take four to six weeks to see reasonable improvement. If it is a functional issue, improvement would be quicker and more stable. If it is a structural issue, need to have a management plan.
Q: For sports injuries, what treatment you provide to help the healing and recovery?
A: We are NOT the first port of help for some types of sports injuries when it happens or at its early stage, for examples: serious open wounds; broken bone; serious internal bleeding especially in the head, neck, body trunk area. In such circumstances, apart from emergency first aid, need to call ambulance and go to hospital emergency department.
For not so serious types of injuries, at different stage of healing and recovery the focus of treatment and management are different to suit the situation.
At the early stage, often see acute inflammation and swelling.
1. The shock and the guarding tension that initiate by the injury event may still be held in the body, acupuncture treatment is very helpful.
2. To settle the acute inflammation and resolve swelling, usually use Chinese herbal medicine, either applied externally or taken internally.
At the second stage, acute inflammation settled and swelling resolved or almost resolved. Range of Motion (ROM) is improving but not normalised yet. The injured site not yet completely healed, often feel sensitive and some pain when pressed.
1. Have remedial massage treatment when the problem is in the local muscle and soft tissue. After remedial massage treatment, in case there is no obvious improvement then need to have acupuncture treatment.
2. Have acupuncture treatment when the problem is in the body system. Recommendation would be made in case acupuncture treatment is indicated. After acupuncture treatment, in some situations, need to relieve residual tension in the deep layer tissues using some specific remedial massage techniques.
3. Chinese herbal medicines are often used to facilitate recovery.
